Packing & Vanning
Secure Container Packing & Vanning
Whether your vehicles leave Japan as Complete Built Units (CBU) or Complete Knock Down (CKD) kits, container loading demands precision. Kansai Group plans every stow, lashing point, and packing detail so cargo arrives intact.
Container shipping protects used cars better than open-deck exposure — but only when vanning and packing are done correctly. Poor lashing, uneven weight, moisture, and loose parts are the usual causes of damage on long ocean voyages.
We handle both CBU (drive-in / roll-in complete vehicles) and CKD (disassembled kits packed for destination assembly). Each method has different risks, materials, and layout rules — and we apply the right process for your destination and cargo mix.
- CBU vehicle lashing with wheel chocks and multi-point straps
- CKD crate, pallet, and labeled kit packing for assembly abroad
- Photo-documented loading aligned with CTU Code best practice
Two Vanning Forms
CBU and CKD — different cargo, same care
Both travel in sealed containers, but how we prepare, pack, and secure them is purpose-built for each form.

CBU — Complete Built Units
Fully assembled vehicles in containers
CBU shipments move complete cars into 20ft or 40ft containers. Units are driven or rolled in, positioned for balanced weight, then locked down so ship motion cannot shift them.
This is the preferred route when buyers want ready-to-register vehicles, or when destination markets allow finished-unit imports without knock-down assembly.
- Wheel chocks fixed fore and aft of every tire
- 4–8 point ratchet lashing to certified container D-rings
- Foam or dunnage between units to stop paint and mirror contact
- Fuel reduced, battery and alarm managed for long sea legs
- Desiccants and dry-container checks against condensation
- Handbrake and Park alone do not secure a car at sea — professional blocking and lashing are required.
- Under-lashing is a leading cause of scuffs and impact damage; we confirm multi-point securing with loading photos.
- Weight must sit on the container’s structural floor zones; tall or heavy units need careful center-of-gravity planning.

CKD — Complete Knock Down
Disassembled kits packed for local assembly
CKD shipments break vehicles into organized parts kits — body panels, powertrain, glass, electrics, and hardware — packed so destination plants or workshops can rebuild them.
Importers often choose CKD for duty, local-content, or logistics reasons. That advantage only holds if every part arrives complete, dry, and identifiable.
- Part-type packing in crates, pallets, or reinforced cartons
- Separators and cushioning for painted panels, glass, and engines
- Clear labeling and packing lists matched to each kit
- Moisture-controlled timber and wrap for long ocean transit
- Braced stows that resist vibration without crushing soft parts
- Missing or mislabeled parts halt assembly — inventory control is as important as physical protection.
- Void spaces must be filled or braced; loose kits migrate and damage neighboring cargo.
- Electronics, glass, and finished surfaces need dedicated packaging — not bulk stacking with heavy castings.
How We Work
From plan to sealed container
A disciplined sequence keeps CBU and CKD cargo safe from input yard to vessel gate.
Survey & layout plan
We size units or kits to 20ft / 40ft capacity, map axle loads, and design a stow that keeps weight balanced and access clear for lashing.
Prepare the cargo
CBU units are checked for fluids, battery, and alarms. CKD kits are counted, labeled, and packed with the right crate or pallet protection.
Vanning & securing
Trained teams chock, brace, and lash — or stack and strap packed kits — using certified straps and CTU-aligned blocking methods.
Document & seal
Loading photos, packing lists, and seal numbers create a clear record for insurance, customs, and your receiving team.
Care Standards
What careful vanning protects against
Ocean voyages bring roll, pitch, vibration, and humidity. Our packing choices target the failures that matter most.
Movement & impact
Blocking, bracing, and multi-point lashing stop sliding and tipping when the vessel moves in heavy seas.
Moisture & corrosion
Dry containers, desiccants, and moisture-aware timber packaging reduce condensation damage on metal and electrics.
Contact & abrasion
Void fillers and soft barriers keep CBU bodywork and CKD panels from rubbing during continuous vibration.
Traceability
VIN photos, kit labels, and packing lists make claims and destination receiving faster and clearer.
Our Commitment
Packing you can trust at discharge
Whether you ship complete cars or knock-down kits, we treat container packing as a specialist craft — not a last-minute load.
- Layout plans tailored to your units, destination, and container type
- Professional CBU lashing with wheel chocks and certified straps
- CKD packing with labels, separators, and moisture protection
- Photo evidence of stow and securing before the container is sealed
- Coordination with inland transport and ocean booking for on-time gate-in
